Malone,
NY, the seat of county government in Franklin County, is
considered one of northern New York's most historic
communities. Situated in northernmost New York within ten
miles of the U.S.-Canadian border to the north and the scenic
Adirondack Park to the south, Malone is rich in heritage with
its stately homes, churches, government buildings and historic
downtown structures. Visitors to Malone will enjoy a
walking tour past the historic Malone Arsenal, several
architecturally fascinating churches, the home of former U.S. Vice
President William Almon Wheeler, the old Horton grist mill, and much
more. The Franklin County House of History on Milwaukee
Street provides a broad and varied glimpse of Malone's (and the
county's) historic past from British invasion during the War of
1812 to the present. Just to the east of town in Burke is the historic
Almanzo Wilder farm and home, source of
inspiration for writer Laura Ingalls Wilder's books "Farmer
Boy" and "Little House on the Prairie."
Malone is also home to the Malone-Dufort municipal airport. The Malone Memorial
Recreation Park offers nearly 100 acres of fine recreational
opportunities from swimming to picnics, playground and sports
facilities. Titus Mountain is a favorite destination for skiers,
snowboarders and winter sports enthusiasts, and the Malone Golf
Club is one of the finest golf facilities in northern New York.
Malone, NY, "The Star of the North," is a fine place to live -- or just to enjoy for a visit
-- anytime of year!
